Darts World Championship 2024: Schedule, Participants, and Prize Money

The Darts World Championship takes place in London’s Ally Pally from mid-December to early January. Here you can find the schedule with all dates, favorites and prize money.

London – It’s that time for crazy costumes again. And it’s not about the carnival in Cologne or the Ballermann on Mallorca, but about the Darts World Cup, which is being held this year on the British island. The setting is Alexandra Palace (“Ally Pally”) in London.

It is important to dethrone Michael Smith, who defeated Michael van Gerwen 7:4 in the final of the previous edition of the Darts World Cup and became world champion for the first time. The Professional Darts Corporation World Championship will take place from December 15, 2023 to January 3, 2024, so it will last approximately three weeks.

The Darts World Cup will be held in set mode. Three legs are needed to decide a set. A leg win is achieved if you play down the required 501 points to zero before your opponent. Checkout must be done via a double field. The further the tournament progresses, the more sets are necessary to win. If there are three winning sets at the beginning, it takes seven successful sets in the final to win the title.

• Semifinals: 2. Januar 2024 (Best of 11 sets)
• Finale: 3. Januar 2024 (Best of 13 Sets)

Field of participants for the Darts World Cup 2024

A total of 96 players are taking part in the Darts World Cup. The top 32 of the “PDC Order of Merit” are seeded for the 2nd round. In addition, the top 32 of the “PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit” are qualified for the tournament. The field of participants is again rounded off by 32 actors who, through various qualification tournaments, received the certificate to be able to step in front of the cork plate in the Ally Pally.

Who are the favorites for the Darts World Cup 2024?

The top favorite for the title at the Darts World Cup is certainly Luke Humphries due to his outstanding performances in recent months. The world number three won the two most recent major tournaments in preparation for the annual major event and is therefore the first contender for victory.

Last year’s winner Michael Smith, like Humphries from England, is also one of the favorites. Just like the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen, who is traditionally one of the best players in the world and is therefore always an option. Peter Wright (Scotland) and Gerwyn Price (Wales) have had problems this season, but are always capable of scoring the big coup at the Darts World Cup.

Darts World Cup 2024: The German participants and their games

What gives the German darts sport a gigantic boost right from the start: for the first time in the history of the Darts World Cup, five German participants are represented. Gabriel Clemens, Martin Schindler, Ricardo Pietreczko, Dragutin Horvat and Florian Hempel are among the German protagonists.

Clemens and Schindler can be described as the driving forces because they qualified for the Darts World Cup via the world rankings (top 32). Pietreczko, who is being celebrated as the German shooting star this year, Horvat and Hempel have purchased their World Cup tickets through the various qualifying tournaments.

Prize money at the Darts World Cup 2024

The prize money at this year’s Darts World Cup is unchanged compared to last year. The winner receives around 580,000 euros, with a total of 2.9 million euros being distributed. Note: The prize money is originally stated in pounds and is therefore converted into euros.
