The Cuban documentary filmmaker Daniel Diez Castrillo died in Havana at the age of 77, according to the official media published Cubadebate. Recognized as the father of Serrana Televisionan audiovisual project that was born in San Pablo de Yao, a small town in the Sierra Maestra, in the municipality of Buey Arriba, in Granma.
Diez assured at the time that this idea arose while he participated as a brigade member in the Literacy Campaign in 1961.
With the idea of showing Cuba and the world the life of the inhabitants of the Sierra Maestra, the Serrana Television It established itself as the most important documentary producer in the eastern region of Cuba, the genesis of a long work that exhibits the precarious conditions in which people live in these intricate places.
There, the delayed access of its inhabitants to basic resources such as electricity, food and transportation is evident, as well as the very poor housing conditions for those who still reside in houses made of yagua and wood, with dirt floors, a panorama that very little has changed with the pass through the years.
