Dancers in Alūksne celebrate the opening concert of the dance festival “Eternal Engine” / Article

After a tiring day of rehearsals in the sun, dancers from all over Latvia on the island of Lake Alūksne converged almost at the last minute. The movement continued even when the concert started – the idea of ”Eternal Engines” dancers included in the title of next year’s big show seems self-evident.

Being together during the covid pandemic was lacking both emotionally and practically. The worries of the festival organizers after the concert have alleviated.

Latvian stage dance expert Maruta Alpa pointed out: “666 groups are ready to participate in the next dance festival. Of course, there is still a lot to do, but we are surprised by what we have seen this spring. And the most important thing I wanted to say is probably the huge desire of the dancers to dance – to do what they have not been allowed to do for two years. “

During the remote attempts, some collectives have undergone profound changes. For example, Ilmārs Dreļs, the leader of the dance group “Dziga”, said: “In rural areas, it is said that some men, of the stronger sex, have found some jobs. As a result, many collectives have the idea of uniting. ”

The artistic director of the opening concert, Jānis Purviņš, pointed out: “Many new bands have also emerged. There are many new leaders, many also the leaders of new counties. This means that development is taking place. There is a process, a movement, that is also our “Eternal Engine.”

Next year’s big show is intended to explore Latvia in its diversity through dance. Belonging not only to Latvia in general, but also to a specific region has been highlighted in the festive processions, but this time it is also planned in the Daugava stadium. She is especially proud of that.

There is also a great desire to dance among young people in dance groups. Compared to other years, the repertoire of the youngest generation will perform in the repertoire of the “Eternal Engine”.

In total, more than 600 dancers met at the opening concert in Alūksne.
