Daimler to pay $ 2.2 billion in claims of Americans – Motor

Daimler AG has reached an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency, the California Air Resources Board, the California Attorney General’s Office, the US Department of Justice and the US Customs and Border Protection Agency in an emission data manipulation case. In an official statement, the automaker assured that it has sufficient resources to make the necessary payments: $ 1.5 billion in agreements with regulators and $ 700 million in class-action lawsuits of American car owners.

The group estimates that the total payment of $ 2.2 billion will negatively affect the financial condition of Daimler over three years. The brunt of the hit is expected to come over the next 12 months. Despite this, the automaker considers the dispute resolution “an important step towards legal certainty in the various diesel litigations in the United States.”
