The number of deaths in Germany shows an increase again after three days of decline. 139 new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, the Robert Koch-Institut reports Tuesday.
In the past three days, the number of daily coronavirus deaths has actually decreased; from 94 deaths on Saturday to 74 deaths on Sunday to only 43 deaths on Monday.
The total death toll in Germany is now at 6,831. The total number of confirmed infections rose by 685 to 163,860 on Tuesday.
The reproduction number, which shows how many other people are infected by someone with the virus, was around 0.74 on Monday, said German health minister Jens Spahn. Last week, some unrest arose in Germany when this number had risen briefly to 0.9.
Health experts say that a reproduction number above 1 makes it more difficult to control the spread of the virus.
