Today, the staging of Artūrs Dīčs’ play “Block House DONS KIHOTS” is premiered in the Summer Garden of Daile Theater. It is a story of friendship and loneliness at the same time – of an unhappy person who, being in self-isolation, creates his imaginary world and lives in a different reality. The show is unusual in that it is performed in an unusual performance: the actors are in one room, but the audience – in another. The main roles are Dainis Grūbe and Lauris Subatnieks, the director of the performance is Gundars Silakaktins. In July and August, the production will be shown within the Daile Theater summer season “Pre-season connection”.
For both actors and spectators, the play “Block House DON KIHOTS” is a new experience, because the actors play not on stage, but in the cafe of Daile Theater. In turn, spectators sit in the theater garden, and the two sides are separated by a glass wall. In order to hear the nuances of the performance, a digital headset is distributed to each viewer prior to the performance, following all national safety and hygiene measures. The unusual experience is complemented by real-time videos that can be watched on screens in the Summer Garden.
The play is Artūrs Dīčs’ view of modern tragedy. It contains all the rules of the genre of tragedy, but this is a bit ironic tragedy. The story of “Block House DONS KIHOTS” tells about an ordinary block of flats in a residential area, which has an apartment. When walking past its door, the neighbors usually take a step. It is better not to know what the lone occupant of the apartment is doing behind them, who calls himself a Question Mark, even if he knows something about the imminent fate of the world that no one else knows.
However, Viktor must not pass this door. His daily job is to check the electricity meter. At home, everything is falling apart and falling apart. Believing in the apartment, Viktors becomes a hostage and accomplice to the Question Mark, and he has exactly one hour to save the world together with a very strange block of flats.
Actors Dainis Grūbe and Lauris Subatnieks take the lead roles under the direction of director Gundars Silakaktiņš. The artist Aigars Ozoliņš, the artist’s assistant Jurate Silakaktiņa and the music consultant Zane Dombrovska take care of the artistic design of the show, but the artist Harijs Zālītis and the video artist of the show Jēkabs Vilkārsis take care of the light.
The performance will be available on July 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, as well as on August 8 and 9 in the Daile Theater Summer Garden. Visitors gather half an hour before the event, in accordance with national safety requirements. As the show takes place outdoors, we invite you to choose clothing that suits the weather.
