The Seoul Chamber of Commerce’s presidency meeting will be held on the 1st of next month.
It is the first time that the head of the four major domestic groups will be the chairman of the Daehan Award. There are expectations for the role of Chairman Choi, who is called the’oldest brother in the business world’ as a second-generation manager.
According to the business community on the 31st, the Seoul Chamber of Commerce’s presidency will hold a meeting of the presidency at the conference hall in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 1st of next month, and will appoint Choi as the successor of Chairman Park Yong-man.
The Seoul Chancellor reviewed the online meeting of the presidency due to the re-proliferation of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), but decided to conduct a face-to-face meeting while following the quarantine guidelines, taking into consideration the recent decline in the number of confirmed cases and the critical issue of the appointment of the chairman.
If Chairman Choi is elected as president of the Seoul Award on this day, he will be finally elected as president at the extraordinary general assembly of members to be held on the 23rd of the following month. According to the custom of serving as the chairman of the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman Choi is also the president of the Korean Chamber of Commerce after a general meeting of the Korean Chamber of Commerce in March.
Chairman Choi hasn’t revealed his official position even with the numerous Hamapyeongs so far, but it is expected that he will reveal his feelings and whether he will accept the position after being officially appointed.
Chairman Choi has been leading SK Group for over 20 years and is considered to have served as a bridge between 2nd and 3rd generation managers. The business community is expecting that the status of the Korean Chancellor will increase even further if Chairman Choi takes the role of bridging the government and the business world as chairman.
The Korea Chamber of Commerce is the largest comprehensive economic organization in Korea that spans from SMEs to large corporations. It represents 73 regional chambers of commerce nationwide, including the Seoul Chamber of Commerce. It has 180,000 member companies nationwide, and has established global networks with chambers of commerce in 130 countries around the world.
Meanwhile, the term of office of the chairman of the Korean Chamber of Commerce is three years and can be reappointed once.
