OPAVA. Czech actor Ivan Trojan joined the first basketball league at the age of 59. The seven-time holder of the Czech Lion started in the 18th round in the jersey of Opava against Písek and contributed four points to the triumph of the reigning champions 105:94.
Trojan spent a total of a minute and a half on the board. The well-known actor wanted to fulfill his dream by participating in the match, in the past he played in the second football league for his beloved club Bohemians Praha.
Trojan played basketball in the youth league, he tried to thoroughly prepare for his first league debut in his friend Petr Czudek’s team.
“I followed a healthy lifestyle for two months, I didn’t drink alcohol and I cut down on smoking a lot. I didn’t smoke for three days before the match. This shows how much respect I had for that match,” the idnes.cz portal quoted the actor as saying.
The duel with Písek was not at all easy for Opava.
The Trojan, who wore jersey number 60, jumped into action in the first quarter under unfavorable conditions, and after the initial losses, he fought back an error and with the first converted six, stirred up the sold-out Opava hall.

“That action was drawn by Čouda (coach Petr Czudek – note) and it worked out perfectly.”
He later converted three more free throws for a total of six. Proceeds from the sold-out match will go to support the Cystic Fibrosis Club, of which Trojan is a long-time patron.
“Ivan received a present for his 60th birthday so that he could play a sharp match. It was nothing like: ‘Mr. Ivan, come to the left, come to the right and get a basket’. The Písek players did not spare him, but I think he managed it brilliantly. In addition, he gave four points, which is like a dream.
He made four of six free throws, so he had a success rate higher than three-quarters of the players on the board. And they are paid for it,” coach Czudek said after the match.
