In the East Flemish Balegem, a district of Oosterzele, a cyclist was found dead in a canal on Monday morning. The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office appointed a legal physician and a traffic expert, but for the time being there are no indications that the cyclist was hit.

The body was found in a canal in Diepestraat around 7.30 am. The victim is a 61-year-old man from Balegem. It concerns Ludo Lampaert, the manager of the gin distillery and the Stokerij Van Damme farm. The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office appointed a law doctor and a traffic expert, but according to the initial findings there are no indications of intervention by third parties. The exact cause of the cyclist’s fall is being further investigated, the prosecution says.
