Cyberpunk 2077 Game Becomes a Hacker Victim

Suara.com – Game Cyberpunk 2077 reportedly experienced a cyber attack and scrambled several data servers. Para hacker this is also stated to be blackmail CD Projekt Red as a game developer.

Quoted from BBC, Wednesday (10/2/2021), hackers claimed to have stolen the source code or source code in the Cyberpunk 2077 game. They threatened to leak the data if they did not make up for it.

Through a Twitter upload, CD Projekt Red said that the hacker had copied the code from several games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Gwent, and Witcher 3.

“We have also thrown away all of your documents relating to accounting, administrative law, HR, investor relations and more!” wrote the hacker in his notes.

These hackers also threatened to leak data if CD Projekt Red did not pay a ransom within 48 hours. However game developers refused to negotiate with hackers.

“We will not give up on charges or negotiate with actors,” he said, adding that no personal data was compromised in the breach.

CD Projekt Red also claims to have secured the system and started restoring data from backup.

This adds to the bad news list for Cyberpunk 2077. Previously, the game had received complaints from users due to a lot of annoyance when it was played.

“It’s going to be frustrating for game users, but consumers are generally very sympathetic when something like this happens,” said Louise Shorthouse, Senior Games Analyst at Ampere Analysis.

“This comes after a series of recent ransomware attacks against gaming companies, including Capcom and Ubisoft late last year.”

According to the Shorthouse, Cyberpunk 2077 fixes and updates will take longer for a while. Because, currently developers are still prioritizing overcoming the effects of ransomware attacks.
