20 goals behind Ronaldo
Lionel Messi scored his 100th goal for Argentina in the international match against Curaçao – plus two more. The Paris Saint-Germain striker scored after a 20th-minute pass from Giovani Lo Celso in Santiago de Estero’s friendly against the Dutch Caribbean island team on Tuesday. Only two players in the world have scored more goals for their national team: Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has 122 goals and Iran’s Ali Daei has 109 goals. The next players still active in the international record scorer ranking are India’s Sunil Chhetri in sixth place with 84 goals and Poland’s Robert Lewandowski in tenth place with 78 goals.

The 35-year-old then scored two more goals against the clear underdog, taking his international tally to 102 goals. After goals from Fiorentina’s Nicolás González in the 23rd minute, Enzo Fernández of Chelsea in the 34th, Ángel Di María of Juventus in the 78th and Gonzalo Montiel of Sevilla in the 87th, Argentina finally won with 7:0.
Just last week, Messi scored his 800th competitive goal in a 2-0 win over Panama in Buenos Aires. The two internationals at home are Argentina’s first appearances after winning the World Cup in Qatar late last year.
