Criticism of Injured KL Rahul’s Inclusion and Yuzvendra Chahal’s Exclusion in Indian Squad for Asia Cup

Mumbai: Former Indian player Madan Lal criticized the inclusion of injured KL Rahul in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup and the exclusion of spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar said that KL Rahul has a minor injury but it is not a pre-existing injury. But Madan Lal said that Agarkar should have opened up about the nature of Rahul’s injury.

I feel that the selection committee and the team management are not sure whether KL Rahul has regained his fitness. Says Rahul is injured. Whether it was an injury or a minor pain, the chairman of the selection committee should have opened up about it. Shreyas Iyer has also been included in the team. There is no guarantee about Iyer’s fitness either. Both of them are yet to play competitive cricket after recovering from injuries. They should have taken both of them into the team after proving their athleticism. Because, Madan Lal told Aaj Tak that batting in the nets and batting in matches are two different things.

Madan Lal also said that he was surprised that spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not included in the team. I was really surprised that Chahal was not included in the team. Because he is a real match winner. They say only one wrist spinner in the team. But a match winner like Chahal, who has shown skill in taking wickets, was not included in the team.

Axar Patel has been performing well for the last two or three years. Not to criticize him, but Ravindra Jadeja is doing the same thing as Axar is doing. We need wicket-takers to win big matches. Madan Lal said that except for the inclusion of unfit players and the dismissal of Chahal, the rest of the team was as expected.
