Criticism of HUMO film with shooting ‘Marc Van Ranst’, Uni …

There is criticism of a video by HUMO in which actor Kevin Janssens takes the role of virologist Marc Van Ranst and shoots barbecuing Flemish nationalists. Interfederal Equal Opportunities Center Unia sees no criminal offenses.

The film takes the form of a trailer for a film about superhero Marc Van Ranst. Among other things, it will enforce the corona measures on a barbecue of Flemish nationalists. He grabs the heavy resources and starts shooting at the attendees.

The fragment is inspired by an incident with Member of Parliament for Vlaams Belang Dries Van Langenhove, who was caught in May with a barbecue while friends were not allowed under the corona measures.

“Going too far”

Van Langenhove was not set up with the video himself, and others also expressed their dissatisfaction via social media. N-VA MP Theo Francken thinks it is “going too far”. “By criminalizing political opponents and murdering ‘for fun’, the left is playing with fire. Punishable, but certainly reprehensible ”, he said on Twitter.

Equal Opportunities Center Unia received reports about the video, but sees no criminal offense. According to the center, it is about satire / humor. “Punishable (inciting) means that there must be a malicious intention (a special intent). That is of course not present here. Ultimately, the public prosecutor’s office decides, but there must always be a special set-up ”, it says there.

The editors of HUMO did not receive a request to have the video removed. Vincent Loozen, responsible for video at HUMO, remains behind. “It is satire and absolutely over the top. That’s the idea behind it, ”he says.
