Tens of thousands of extra people will knock on the door of the food banks in the Netherlands due to the corona crisis. That prediction is made by the chairman of the Food Banks of the Netherlands, Leo Wijnbelt Nederlands Dagblad. He expects the number of customers to increase in the near future.
“After the health crisis comes an economic crisis,” says Wijnbelt. The food banks have seen the number of requests for help increase in recent weeks.
A collection campaign was started two weeks ago to provide everyone with food packages. The food banks hope to raise ten million euros. This money is needed not only to accommodate the growth in the number of requests for help, but also to protect volunteers against the virus.
