Crimea Security Service Chief Arrested For Treason

President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated the former Head of the Main Directorate of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) in Crimea detained on charges of high treason. This was conveyed by Zelensky when announcing the dismissal of two high-ranking Ukrainian officials, the Prosecutor General and the Head of the State Security Service (SBU).

As reported CNN and Russian news agencies, TASS News AgencyMonday (18/7/2022), Zelensky in a video statement via his Telegram channel on Sunday (17/7) local time admitted that the head of the Crimean SBU Oleg Kulinich had been detained since 16 July.

“Officers of the State Bureau of Investigation together with the Ukrainian Security Service have detained the former head of the main directorate of the SBU in Crimea,” Zelensky said in a statement. Crimea is a territory in Ukraine that was annexed by Russia in 2014, in a move not recognized by the international community.

According to Zelensky, he had fired Kulinich from the beginning Russian invasion of Ukraine. “As we see, this decision is very appropriate,” he said.

Furthermore, Zelensky said there was sufficient evidence to ensnare charges of high treason. “All of his crimes have been recorded. A fair legal judgment will be given for everything he did during these months and before,” he said.

“Those who are accomplices in this criminal group, who work in the interests of Russia will also be held accountable,” Zelensky said.

“This is about the transfer of classified information to the enemy and other facts about cooperation with the Russian special services,” he said.
