He Costa Rican Center for Film Production (Cinema Center) announced the call for the Central American and Caribbean Feature Film Competition and the National Short Film Competition that will be part of the XII edition of the Costa Rica International Film Festival 2024 (CRFIC12).
Works by filmmakers from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, as well as Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, can participate in the Central American and Caribbean Feature Film Competition. For more details you can download the competition bases in this link.

The CRFIC promotes a meeting space between the national audiovisual sector, members of the international film industry and the Costa Rican public, while highlighting cinema from various parts of the world. About this program the artistic director, Fernando Chaves Espinachhe pointed:
The CRFIC has established itself as the platform for Central American cinema and the showcase of local production. “We recognize the importance of defending these spaces of artistic expression and creative freedom, also connected to the development of local industry.”
From the Film Center they indicated that “The Central American and Caribbean Feature Film Competition is a competitive section that serves as a platform to explore the diversity of the region’s cinema and promote its consumption in different spaces. The National Short Film Competition is the other competitive section, made up of Costa Rican works, in which it is desired to highlight creation in short format, in any genre, in a defined selection that allows a glimpse of current trends in emerging national cinema and consolidated”.
The juries designated for each of the categories will award prizes to the Best Costa Rican Feature Film and the Best Feature Film from Central America and the Caribbean, on the one hand, and the Best National Short Film, on the other; The chosen works will receive economic incentives, while they could be highlighted with other recognitions for artistic and technical elements.
The 12th edition of the CRFIC will be held at multiple venues in San José from June 20 to 29, with a traveling stage that will visit six communities in the country. The offer will include internationally awarded films, recent discoveries and classic films, as well as Training and Industry activities, workshops, talks and other meeting spaces.
