CRE slows down mechanism that allowed homes with solar panels to sell surplus energy

The CRE reversed allowing homes that generate electricity through solar panels to sell the surplus of what they produce.

Mexico City, August 12 (However) .– The Energy regulatory commission (CRE) reversed a mechanism that allowed users of solar panels sell energy to your neighbors or other users.

The commission approved in an extraordinary session to withdraw the request for publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) of agreements A / 002/2019, A / 005/2019, A / 015/2019, A / 021/2019 and A / 034/2019, are related to the transmission, storage and distributed generation of energy.

With the endorsed, the methodology that established the prices for the distribution of LP gas by pipeline will not be published either.

In December last year, the CRE approved a provision that allowed those who have solar panels to sell their surplus energy to other users.

The endorsed project indicated that the power generators could sell it to people in the same population area and under the same rate. In this way, households that generate more energy than they consume could sell it to other users, which would represent opportunities for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Sellers would not need a permit from the authority; although by regulation, but they could not have installations higher than 0.5 megawatts.

The prices and contracts between users will be detailed according to the provision of the CRE would be published in the Official Journal of the Federation.

Electricity through solar energy is produced by the impact of the sun’s rays on photovoltaic cells, which produces a movement of electrons that, when channeled, generate electric current.

According to data from the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), there are 94,844 solar roofs in Mexico. In 2018 alone, more than 35,000 were installed, which represents a 60 percent growth in the country.
