Crazy Rise, US Inflation Reaches 8.6%, Highest Since 1981

Jakarta

The inflation rate in the United States (US) rose to 8.6% compared to last year. This is the highest increase since December 1981.

Quoted from CNBC the consumer price index (CPI) for goods and services increased by more than 8.3%. According to Dow Jones predictions this figure excludes volatile food and energy prices.

The CPI rose 1%, then core inflation rose 0.6%. Indeed, last month energy prices rose by 3.9% and on an annual basis it rose to 34.6%.

Furthermore, the cost of housing also contributed to this month’s inflation. Then food prices also rose 1.2% on a monthly basis and 10.1% on a yearly basis.

Morning Consult’s Chief Economist John Leer said this condition created negative sentiment for the market. “The inflation data in May is disappointing,” he said, Friday (10/6/2022).

Previously there were several increases in a number of categories. As airline ticket prices rose 12.6% in a month, used cars and trucks rose 1.8% and dairy products rose 2.9%.

Recently, the Federal Reserve has also conveyed its plan to increase its benchmark interest rate to suppress growth and lower prices.

Finance Minister Janet Yellen said that the responsibility for reducing inflation was the Fed’s job. The government has dismissed accusations of trillions of dollars in stimulus being poured into COVID-19 relief as the cause of inflation.
