Rocket start for the screening of the Umbria Region and Federfarma regarding the search for antibodies to Sars-Cov-2 through free rapid serological tests carried out in the participating Umbrian pharmacies (over 100). In the first 8 days of the campaign dedicated to students (0-19 years) and family members (parents, siblings, further cohabiting family members as well as assisted persons attending university courses), 3,650 tests have already been reported, with the results that in addition to the citizen are sent to the attending physician and to the dedicated public health services. Of these 3,650, 113 tests reported positive indices. In order to carry out the test, which takes place after an appointment to be taken with the pharmacy, a prescription from the general practitioner or pediatrician of free choice is required. “A very important screening in this difficult moment, to try to meet citizens and contribute to the management of the pandemic by the entire regional health system”, declared the presidents of Federfarma Umbria Augusto Luciani, Federfarma Perugia Silvia Pagliacci and Federfarma Terni Maurizio Bettelli. “We would like to underline, among other things, that the tests in the pharmacy carried out with a very fast procedure are carried out in total safety for citizens and pharmacists, and that the latter have joined the project on a voluntary basis and have been duly trained before the start. screening through a thorough procedure. In a period in which we all have to row on the same side, avoiding personalism, misplaced claims and sterile controversies, we regret having found incomprehensible positions regarding the safety of the campaign that wants to contribute to the fight against the pandemic. Already during the first wave in full lock-down, thanks to their spirit of sacrifice, the pharmacists guaranteed the service, often in very difficult conditions, showing extraordinary professionalism. And they continue to do so even now ».
What is the serological test
Serological tests have no diagnostic value, but allow to identify the antibodies produced by the immune system in response to the virus. Carried out in screening campaigns, they are useful in assessing the degree of exposure of the population to Covid-19. Therefore, they do not replace molecular tests aimed at identifying the infection by means of a swab.
