Covid-19. Virus circulation “remains high”

The Normandy Regional Health Agency (ARS) took stock of the health situation at a press conference in the early afternoon, this Friday, January 29. Viral circulation “remains high and continues to increase, but not exponentially”, said the director, Thomas Deroche. The regional incidence rate stabilizes: 181.5 (against 189.7 Tuesday).

Hospitalizations, they continue to increase with 1,371 patients on January 28 (against 1,324 on January 26). In intensive care, the number of Covid patients reached 107 people (compared to 97 on January 26). Hospital tensions are more and more felt.

The most significant increases affect the departments of Orne, Seine-Maritime and Manche Certain territories are the subject of massive screening soon. This is the case in Dieppe, where the hospital was affected by a cluster identified at the end of last week, and it will be the turn of Le Havre next week. “The aim is to locally curb the spread of the virus”, reminds Thomas Deroche.

The share of the British, South African and Brazilian variants in regional contaminations is still not known. Since January 23, a second variant screening PCR test has been carried out on all the PCR tests that returned positive, using kits detecting the variants of the virus. “A much faster solution than the sequencing technique previously used”, reports the director of the ARS.

The vaccination campaign in Normandy continues, with around fifty centers to date. As of January 28, 93,963 doses have been injected (compared to 87,632 on January 26), including 2,332 in 2e injection. 47,449 people over 75 (nursing homes and generalization to the population combined) were vaccinated. “This shows that the public prioritization strategy is working”. ARS recalls that “vaccination is dependent on the supply of the region”. As of January 24, she had received 100,625 doses. However, she confirms that the appointments made for the first injunctions until February 14 and those for the injection of the second dose, “will be honored thanks to a very strict allocation system, except for exceptions due to handling problems on the Doctolib site”.

To date, we do not yet know the date of reopening of appointments for the first injection, the preparation work is underway and will depend on supplies in February.
