Covid-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 in Mexico: how to register and how it will be distributed

(CNN Spanish) – The Mexican government announced on Tuesday the start of a new stage of vaccination against covid-19 in the country, which will focus on boys and girls from 5 to 11 years old.

This is the seventh stage of vaccination that has been carried out in Mexican territory since the first began in December 2020, said the Mexican Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, at a press conference.

Online registration

Although López-Gatell did not report when exactly the vaccination will begin for this sector of the population, he did comment that registration will open online on Thursday, June 16.

This registration is an important step to streamline the vaccination process, since all those registered are allowed to download the vaccination file, a document that must be printed on the day of vaccination. Also, by being registered, you may be notified by message or call when your vaccine will be, although not everyone receives this notice, so it is better to keep an eye on official government channels.

Pfizer in a dosis scheme

The Mexican official indicated that the vaccine that will be given to children from 5 to 11 years old is that of Pfizer.

“The contract has already been signed with the Pfizer company for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which we are going to acquire around eight million doses that will allow us to start this vaccination process,” said López-Gatell.

These eight million vaccines will be the initial part of the process because it is estimated that this population sector amounts to 15.4 million people and the scheme for children from 5 to 11 years old will be two doses.

The two-dose schedule for children will be “with an interval of 21 days and up to a month and a half to confer protection against covid-19 similar to that of adults, according to clinical trials,” the Mexican government said in a statement.

How to register for the covid vaccine for children from 5 to 11 years old in Mexico?

First, go to the website https://mivacuna.salud.gob.mx/ Once there, you must enter the CURP of the person who will receive the vaccine in the space for children from 5 to 11 years old When you complete this step, you will have to fill in some personal information and contact information for notices. When this is done, the child will be registered and you will be able to download the vaccination file (if it is not available at that time, you will be able to see it days later by entering the CURP again)

How will it be distributed?

López-Gatell pointed out that vaccination will be staggered; that is, it will not start the entire process simultaneously, but rather it will be activated little by little by states and municipalities.

“You have to be aware of the call for each municipality, it will not be simultaneous throughout the country, but they will be opened in the different states and municipalities,” he added.

The Mexican government indicated that the vaccine will be placed in conventional health facilities, in temporary units known as macrocenters, and in other special areas that will be announced later.
