7:43 am – United States with 1450 dead in 24 hours
The United States recorded an additional 1450 deaths from Covid-19, according to the latest report by Johns Hopkins University.
This balance increases to 67,674 the number of deaths since the beginning of the epidemic in North American territory.
At 8:30 pm on Sunday (1:30 am this Monday in Lisbon), the University of Baltimore had 1,157,753 infected and 180,152 recovered.
The United States is the country with the most fatalities and the most confirmed cases of infection in the world.
Next are Italy (28,884 dead, more than 210,000 cases), the United Kingdom (28,446 dead, more than 186,000 cases), Spain (25,264 dead, more than 217,000 cases) and France (24,895 dead, more than 168,000 cases) ).
7:24 am – Marcelo listens to media
The President of the Republic receives today, in audience, the presidents of the main groups of average of the country, after listening to the union and associations representing the sector on the impact of Covid-19 in the media.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa starts the afternoon with an audience with RTP, followed by Impresa, Media Capital, Cofina, Lusa and Renascença Multimédia group.
On Sunday, in a note that marked World Press Freedom Day, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa renewed the call for the State to support the media, considering that it must do so “in a transparent and non-discriminatory manner”.
The President stressed that, “without free and plural information, there is no democracy”.

The picture in Portugal
Covid-19, a disease caused by the new coronavirus, has already killed 1043 people in Portugal. The latest epidemiological bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health, known on Sunday, registered another 20 deaths.The number of patients recovered amounts to 1689.
The lethality rate is 4.1 percent and the Northern Region is still the most affected.
In total, the new coronavirus infected 25,282 people, 856 of whom are hospitalized. One hundred and forty-four are in intensive care units.

The Health Minister on Sunday asked for caution in reading the figures. Marta Temido pointed out that, in the 24 hours preceding the bulletin, there had been few medical reports.
In turn, the Director-General of Health considered it too early to speak of immunity. Regarding the numbers, Graça Freitas guaranteed that they are as close to reality as possible.
The international framework
On an international scale, the Covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 245,000 deaths and infected more than 3.4 million people in 195 countries and territories.
Brazil has passed the seven thousand dead mark. Altogether, 7025 are the fatal victims of Covid-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 100 thousand cases of infection with the new coronavirus have been registered.

Spain also starts this Monday the first phase of easing measures against Covid-19, with the partial opening of small businesses, such as barber shops, hairdressers and restaurants, which are now selling in take-away.The World Health Organization came however
declare that the new coronavirus has “natural origin”, thus rejecting
that it has been developed in a laboratory in China.
According to the “Transition plan to a new normality”, approved by the Spanish Government, these are measures with very low or no risk of contagion. There will be four stages, each lasting about two weeks. That is, the entire process will take a minimum of six weeks and a maximum of eight.
These measures are in addition to others in force since last week, such as the departure of children up to 14 years old and also, since Saturday, with the older ones of that age being able to leave the house daily within established time bands.
Even so, the government of Pedro Sánchez is going to propose to Parliament a two-week extension of the state of emergency, in force since March 15.
