Covid-19 Test – USA Flights

Important information for passengers traveling to the United States

Our flights to and from the United States are operating regularly and smoothly. Please review the following information, which contains very important requirements for flights beginning January 26, 2021.

Air travel is safe and reliable in this new normal. As a further step towards preventing the spread of COVID-19, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is expanding entry requirements to the United States by requiring all air passengers to enter that country submit a negative COVID-19 test.

Consult the information issued by the CDC here.

Requirements to travel to the United States with Viva Aerobus:

If you plan a trip to the United States as of January 26, 2021, you must take a COVID-19 detection test before your plane trip and present your negative result to the Viva Aerobus airline, or, if in the You have recovered from COVID-19 in the last three months, present your positive result and a letter from your doctor or a public health official stating that you are authorized to travel. This includes all passengers traveling to the United States (2 years of age and older), including US citizens and residents.

The screening test must be done within 3 days prior to the departure of your flight to the United States and must be a viral test (PCR or antigen test). You must receive the results before the departure of your flight and present the documentation as proof of your results to the airline before flying (documentation and / or boarding).

Requirements to submit a valid negative test

Documentation of the test result should include information that identifies the person, date the sample was taken, and type of test (PCR or antigen test). It must include information showing that the test was done within 3 days before the flight departure. This documentation can be printed or electronic.

How to get a valid proof before my flight

The valid proofs to present are the following:

  • PCR test with negative result – performed within 3 days prior to your flight departure
  • Negative antigen test – performed within 3 days of your flight departure
  • Viral tests with positive result (previous 3 months) + “recovery document”

Note: It is the responsibility of the passengers the veracity and authenticity of these tests.

The tests are available nationwide in health centers, pharmacies, and laboratories.

Antigen tests are inexpensive, accessible, and fast (results in less than 30 minutes). You can find them in pharmacies (Farmacia Benavides, Farmacia del Ahorro, among others) as well as in many other health centers and laboratories.

If you could not take the test within the 3 days prior to your flight, Viva Aerobus is in talks and negotiations with the main airport groups in Mexico to enable modules that offer an economic antigen testing service so that you can perform it right there and have your result prior to flight departure. Remember to arrive at least 4 hours before your flight departure so that you can carry out your test and documentation in time. If you already have your negative test, you can arrive 3 hours before your flight departure.

These tests at airports will only be available to passengers with flights to the United States.

Stay tuned for the information that Viva Aerobus will be updating regarding viral testing modules at airports.

I have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 3 months and have recovered

If you have already recovered from COVID-19, re-screening is not recommended within three months of receiving a positive viral test result, as long as you do not have COVID-19 symptoms. If you have received a positive viral test result in the last 3 months and have met the criteria to end isolation, you can travel with documentation of positive viral test results and a letter from your doctor or a health official that indicates that you have been authorized to travel. The positive test result and the letter are called “recovery documentation.”

What to do in case of a positive result

The negative test is essential for you to be able to travel by plane to the United States, so if a negative test or recovery documentation is not presented, the boarding will not be allowed.

People who test positive or show symptoms should voluntarily isolate themselves and postpone their trip until they have recovered from COVID-19.

No one with a positive test result performed within 3 days prior to the flight or with symptoms will not be allowed to board.
