Getting a test to find out if you are a carrier of the coronavirus is usually a rather unpleasant time. Still pass the saliva test, widely deployed in schools, or the serological test where a small drop of blood is enough. But for PCR and antigen testing, with the painful experience of the cotton swab that deeply cleanses your nostrils, it can turn into a hassle.
In Amsterdam, the Netherlands, another type of test is being developed. To know if a person is infected, they just have to scream at the top of their lungs!
Shout out his rage … before being detected positive?
Dutch inventor Peter Van Wees is currently testing his new invention called Quba in one of the testing centers. Its principle is simple: the person enters an individual booth and once locked up, shouts, sings, in short shouts out for a few minutes. The patient can then exit and wait for the result which arrives 3 minutes later. An air purifier then allows a new patient to enter safely.
“If you have the coronavirus and you scream and scream, you spill tens of thousands of particles that contain the virus«, Explains Peter Van Wees in the British daily The Independant.
An experimentation phase for this new kind of test
This device would also be able to detect particles of the virus on the clothes of the people tested by using a remote measuring device allowing toidentify the Covid-19 by its size.
For the moment, no question of generalizing this cabin of a new kind, it has yet to prove itself. To collect scientific data and convince of the validity of his invention, Peter Van Wees set up next to a test center in Amsterdam and ask for volunteers to come yell for science.
Giant concert in Amsterdam
Other people were able to shout without holding back this Saturday, March 6 in Amsterdam. For a life-size experience, 1,300 people were able to taste once again the sensations of experiencing a live concert.
It was not a rave party but a test concert set up by the Dutch government to eventually allow the reopening of concert halls.
If Peter Van Wees’ cabin was not used as a detection measure, there is no doubt that if the scientific data validate the usefulness of his airlock, he could very quickly find himself at the entrance of all concert halls.
