RAKYATKU.COM – A US disease expert said patients who recover from Covid-19 are likely to be immune from the disease for at least a year.
Former official of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Dr. Scott Gottleib, speaking on CBS TV station on Sunday (16/8/2020) about the findings of the Centers for Prevention and Disease Control (CDC) that patients who recover can be assured of resistance for three months.
“However, the chances are that you will have an immunity period of between six and 12 months. It will vary widely. Some people have lower immunity, most are greater,” said Gottleib.
“However, the good news is that they can document that people will have immunity. They will not be infected again after being cured for at least three months and it could be much longer than that,” he added.
Gottlieb warned that Covid-19 was called the new corona virus for certain reasons, namely that there is still a lot that doctors don’t know.
The number of deaths from the corona virus in the US is approaching 170,000. Experts at the University of Washington’s Institute of Health Metrics predict that the figure will hit 186,000 on September 1 and more than 390,000 by December 1.
Health experts have had a hard time convincing large numbers of people to wear masks and keep their distance to slow the spread of the disease.
