COVID-19 outbreak declared at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown | COVID-19 in the Atlantic

Until further notice, there will be no new admissions to this unit, with rare exceptions. Patient visits are also temporarily restricted.

Earlier Saturday, Health PEI had stated that COVID outbreaks in the hospital Hillsborough and County Memorial Hospital Kings were now complete.

Due to staffing shortages, the emergency department at this county hospital Kings will only be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. this weekend.

The health care system in Prince Edward Island faces increased pressure this month due to an upsurge in COVID cases. Last week, there were 135 health authority employees who were off work because they had COVID.

Nearly a dozen employees with COVID, but doing well after a brief period of quarantine, were even called to work anyway, said the Dr Michael Gardam, ceo of the island’s health network.

In a statement Thursday, Health P.E.I. also asked citizens to be patient if they wish to obtain treatment from Paxlovid, as the demand for this treatment against COVID-19 is high.

The province says Paxlovid is prescribed for people 50 and older. For adults under 50, it is prescribed for those who are immunocompromised or have underlying health issues.
