COVID-19: Now over 124,000 infections in Canada

MONTREAL – Ontario and Quebec alone reported 224 new cases of coronavirus disease on Friday, pushing the country to pass the 124,000 infection mark.

Ontario has recorded 131 cases, but that number is overstated due to compilation issues the day before. Thus, of all these contaminations, an imprecise number dates back to the previous 24 hours. To date, 41,179 Ontarians have fallen ill from COVID-19, including 2,796 who have lost their battle. Three of these deaths date back to August 20.

Quebec said 93 other people have contracted the virus, for a total of 61,495 infections since the start of the pandemic last winter. So far, 5,733 Quebecers positive for COVID-19 have lost their lives to COVID-19, up three. Two of these fatalities occurred between August 14 and August 20.

New Brunswick has reported two cases.

As of early afternoon, Canadian health authorities counted 124,099 cases of COVID-19 and 9,060 dead.

Manitoba: 796 cases (12 deaths)

Newfoundland and Labrador: 268 cases (3 deaths)

New Brunswick: 188 cases (2 deaths)

Prince Edward Island: 44 cases

Yukon: 15 cases

Northwest Territories: 5 cases

Nunavut: 0 cases

Canadian returnees: 13 cases

Total: 124,099 cases (9,060 deaths)
