COVID-19: increase in the number of children in childcare services in the Montreal region

As of Monday, daycare services in the Montreal Metropolitan Community, the Joliette region and L’Épiphanie will be able to receive up to 75% of the maximum number of children allowed in their establishment.

Regarding the home childcare providers, they can accommodate five children if they are alone, or seven children if an assistant is present.

Located in areas considered hot for COVID-19, these childcare services had to wait longer than those elsewhere in Quebec. The latter had received the green light from public health to increase the number of children to 75% on June 8.

“The pandemic is still there, but the latest data shows a significant drop in the number of people infected. This new phase of reopening childcare services in hot areas will give parents more flexibility to rebalance their family and professional responsibilities, “said Mathieu Lacombe, Minister of Families of Quebec, by press release, Sunday.

The ministry clarified that if COVID-19 continues to be brought under control, these childcare services will be able to pass to the last phase of the gradual reopening plan in order to accommodate 100% of children from July 13.
