COVID-19 in Ontario: 120 more deaths | Coronavirus: Ontario

The number of people admitted to hospital with COVID went from 1,921 last week to 1,842 this week, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health.

Of these patients, 140 are in intensive care, still slightly down from 148 reported last Thursday.

Now, Ontario has a total of 14,844 deaths related to COVID-19.

The new figures are released while the head of the province warns of the risks of a triple threatin reference to the flu season, COVID-19, and the resurgence of the respiratory syncytial virus.

This situation, explains Dr. Kieran Moore, could lead to a return to the obligation to wear the mask in the coming weeks.

Before making his decision, Dr. Moore wants to monitor COVID-19 data, intensive care unit occupation, and flu activity.

Last week, Public Health Ontario reported that COVID-19’s BQ subvariants progress twice as fast as the BA.5 variant. A situation that, according to the authorities, presents a high risk of transmissibility, reinfection and reduction of the effectiveness of the vaccine against COVID-19.
