JAKARTA – The Expert Council of the Indonesian Public Health Expert Association (IAKMI), Hermawan Saputra, said the high increase in Covid-19 cases was because there were still many residents who were not aware of using masks in carrying out activities outside the home.
He also asked the government to limit residents’ activities outside the home. In addition, he continued, the tourism sector must also be tightened because it has the potential to become a cluster for the spread of corona in the momentum of a long holiday.
“Due to the density of activities including tourism and the government is reconsidering (limiting residents’ activities) because not all of them are aware of wearing masks, keeping their distance, and having a healthy behavior,” said Hermawan when contacted. Okezone, Saturday (22/8/2020).
Hermawan also highlighted that government policies are considered too loosening up many sectors. According to him, the more residents who are active outside the home will have the potential to be exposed to Covid-19.
“The key remains with the government. When the government relaxes there will definitely be an impact and an increase in the transmission of cases due to the density of visiting people,” he explained.
Hermawan considered that the government should limit the activities of residents until the spread of the corona virus could be controlled. Moreover, he said, the health facilities prepared in the corona pandemic also had no significant changes.
“So this is part of the government’s policy. If the government wants to anticipate it, don’t rush it because we have many cases. And we don’t want fatigue in the health sector and health facilities whose capacities are just like that. Even though patients are still increasing,” concluded Hermawan.
