Covid-19: “A vaccine will not end the pandemic on its own”, Dr Tedros (WHO)

Several countries around the world are now experiencing new outbreaks after a long period with little or no transmission. These countries serve as a warning to those who now see a downward trend in cases. Progress doesn’t mean you can declare victory“, Says Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during a virtual press conference from Geneva.

Transmission…

According to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, it is vital that countries are able to identify and prevent clusters quickly, prevent community transmission and the possibility of further restrictions.

Vaccine…

No country can get away with this until we have a vaccine. A vaccine will be a vital tool, and we hope we get one as soon as possible. But there’s no guarantee we’ll get one, and even if we do have a vaccine, it won’t end the pandemic on its own.“, Says Dr Tedros.

Learn to control this virus …

He believes that we all need to learn to control and manage this virus using the tools we currently have, and to make the adjustments in our daily lives that are necessary to keep ourselves and others safe.

Confinements…

The lockdowns have allowed many countries to suppress transmission and ease the pressure on their health systems. But lockdowns are not a long-term solution for any country. To do this, every person must be involved. Each person can make a difference. Each person, family, community and nation must make their own decisions, depending on the level of risk“, Adds Dr Tedros.
