Covid-19, 40% of school staff could be among “fragile workers”

In Italian schools, staff with an average age higher than that recorded in other countries of the OECD area work. The statistical data brings with it indirect information: these are the subjects who, due to their age, have so far been considered at greatest risk of Covid-19 infection.

This association was made by the Fatto Quotidiano, which dedicated an article to school employees considered as fragile workers, a condition given by their age or by the presence of particular pathologies.

Data in hand, he calculated that about 40% of the staff between ATA and teachers is the one indicated at risk of contagion and that the Ministry is already afraid of an avalanche of absences that the supervisory boards and school managers will have to deal with with substitutions. This is just under half both in the case of teachers and in the case of Ata staff.

In the attached document issued by Inail to the local structures, the hypothesis of evaluating the condition of “temporary inability or limitations of eligibility” is feared. Given the state of emergency extended to October 15, there is the possibility that many workers who find themselves in critical situations, those considered to be “frail”, present a medical certificate of exemption from being present in the workplace considered at risk.
