COVID-19: 13 regions have reduced new cases in the last two weeks – Ministry of Health

-Today 3,324 cases are reported and there is a positivity rate of 12.74% nationwide

The Ministry of Health reports that 3,324 new cases of COVID-19 were registered this Sunday, December 18, with a positivity rate of 12.74% in the last 24 hours nationwide, with 19,376 PCR tests and antigen tests. The daily positivity in the Metropolitan Region is 12.88%.

Of the total new cases, 59% were diagnosed by antigen testing, 37% originated from Active Case Search (BAC) and 15% of those notified are asymptomatic. As for the Metropolitan Region, it presents 52% for antigen, 38% for BAC and 10% of the reported cases are asymptomatic.

According to the sampling, the regions with the highest PCR positivity in the last week are Arica and Parinacota, O’Higgins, Antofagasta and Tarapacá.

Meanwhile, the region of Arica and Parinacota has the highest current incidence rate per 100,000 population, followed by the regions of Atacama, Tarapacá and Los Ríos.

Five regions have reduced new cases in the past 7 days and 13 regions have done so in the past two weeks.

Daily report

According to today’s report, of the 3,324 new cases of COVID-19, 1,988 correspond to symptomatic people and 361 do not have symptoms. In addition, 975 positive PCR tests were recorded which were not reported.

The total number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country reaches 4,983,092. Of this total, 10,337 patients are in the active phase. The cases recovered are 4,894,223.

As for deaths, according to information provided by DEIS, 25 deaths from causes associated with COVID-19 have been recorded in the last 24 hours. The total number of deceased stands at 62,875 in the country.

To date, 120 people are hospitalized in intensive care, of which 88 assisted by mechanical ventilation. In relation to the Integrated Health Network, a total of 315 critical beds are available for the patient who requests it, regardless of the region in which they are located.

As regards the Laboratory Network and diagnostic capacity, the results of 19,376 PCR tests and antigen tests were communicated yesterday, for a total of 47,442,481 analyzed nationwide to date. The positivity of the last 24 hours at the country level is 12.74% and in the Metropolitan Region it is 12.88%.

As far as healthcare residences are concerned, we have 13 accommodation facilities, for a total of 782 beds. Actual employment nationwide is 41%, for a total of 295 beds available for use.
