There was agitation on Sunday July 18, in the morning, in the Kergaradec area, behind the CrossFit Brest gym: this is where the “Rowing day” organized by the Brest association was held. Sport Health. The concept ? Take a seat on a rower after having completed a free participation and accumulate a maximum of kilometer for the association. Nearly fifty people responded to the call launched on social networks.
“We can’t do just anything”
This association, created two months ago, is chaired by Sophie Obscur. Suffering from breast cancer in February 2019, she met Anne-Soizic Guion during her training at the CrossFit Brest room, where sport has notably enabled her to reduce the effects of chemotherapy. Including fatigue, very present. “While talking with Sophie, we said to each other: and why not start an association? », Says Anne-Soizic, the sports medico-educator of Brest Sport Santé, who passed a DU« Sport and cancer »at La Sorbonne. And intends to pursue new training: “We cannot do just anything. It is important to give the right advice, ”she says.
Cancers, multiple sclerosis …
What is offered to members? Sports therapy, for cancer patients, physical activities adapted to various pathologies and maintenance physical activities, intended for sedentary people. Obesity, multiple sclerosis, cancers, long covid, etc. : the association can support several types of patients.
“The interest of regular physical activity is real”
“It brought me physical and mental well-being,” says the president. On the association’s website, Isabelle, 58, affected by multiple sclerosis and two breast cancers, confirms: “I was able to reduce painkillers. My neurologist could only see my progress during the annual neurological check-ups. My oncologist, who practices CrossFit herself, was won over in advance… The interest in regular physical activity is real ”.
A subscription system
On the practical side, the courses will take place at 29, rue Nicephore-Niepce, in dedicated premises, made available by Crossfit Brest, whose manager is none other than the spouse of Anne-Soizic Guion. Membership of the association costs € 20 and the subscription for two sessions per week costs € 42 per month. Those interested can also choose a booklet of twelve sessions for 150 €. A file is also in the process of being put together to form part of the “Sport on prescription” device, for which some mutuals cover the cost of the sessions.
Interested health professionals
Newly launched, Brest Sport Santé has many ideas. Its medico-sports educator is in contact with health professionals, some of whom are in hospitals. Among the projects under discussion, a possible intervention in the hematology department, in a sterile room.
