Coupe de France – round of 16: Rodez surprises Auxerre, Nantes is doing well in Angers

Toulouse (L1) – Reims (L1) : 3-1

Will Still’s streak has come to an end. Unbeaten since his young coach took office, Reims fell heavily in Toulouse (3-0) and saw his career come to an end in the round of 16. Superiors, the Toulousains made the difference from the first period thanks to an own goal from the unfortunate Reims goalkeeper, Yevhann Diouf, after a strike from Stijn Spierings returned by the bar (21st), and a counter flash concluded by Zakaria Aboukhlal ( 34th). Farès Chaïbi ensured Toulouse victory on the hour mark, with a header, after a great collective action (61st). Jens Cadjus saved the honor of Reims at the end of the match (89th).

Vierzon (N2) – Grenoble (L2): 0-1

The last amateur club still in contention in the round of 16 has fallen. Vierzon (N2) was not unworthy but Grenoble logically enforced the hierarchy. Loïc Nestor gave the Ligue 2 club victory after a confused action. On a ball poorly cleared by the Vierzonnaise defense, the Grenoble defender hooked his defender before scoring with a cross shot from the left foot (51st). Vierzon almost equalized at the end of the game, but the post blocked the attempt of Karl Fabien (8th). For the first time in ten years, there will be no amateur club in the quarter-finals.

Auxerre (L1) – Rodez (L2): 2-3

One of the sensations came from Burgundy. Where Rodez, resident of Ligue 2, offered the scalp of Auxerre, club of the elite. The Ruthénois picked up AJA cold with a goal from Joseph Mendes in ambush after a deflected corner at the near post (3rd) before making the Auxerrois bend after the break, with a superb action initiated and concluded by Killian Corredor (68th ) then a last penalty goal from Jung-Bin Park (76th). M’Baye Niang had equalized for the Icaunais just before the break (45th + 2) and Jubal gave them hope at the end, (90th + 2) but that was not enough to revive the 19th of L1.

Angers (L1) – Nantes (L1) : 1-1, 2-4 T.A.B.

The winner of the 2022 edition got scared. The SCO, very well entered in this 8th final, quickly materialized thanks to a goal gag of Abdallah Sima, served by the face of Nantes Joao Victor (6th). The Angevins first managed to counter the rather clumsy opposing offensives. But the visitors did not let go. Winter rookie Florent Mollet finally managed to equalize (87th) with a superb powerful strike to send his team on penalties. Session won by the Nantes, impeccable in front of Bernardoni (2-4), and who therefore qualify for the quarter-finals.

Paris FC (L2) – Annecy (L2) : 1-1, 5-6 T.A.B.

It was Annecy who got away with this long-closed Ligue 2 duel. It was the Haut-Savoyards who got into the game the best, against Parisians who were too shy but were well helped by their goalkeeper Vincent Demarconnay. It took until the 67th minute to see Kévin Farade achieve Annecy’s domination from the penalty spot. While we thought the visitors were managing the end of the game, Khalid Boutaïb snatched the shots on goal for a struggling Paris FC, with a superb sequence in added time (90 + 1). The session, tense and long undecided, finally smiled at FC Annecy, qualified for the first quarter-final in its history.
