Country reports increase in cases and hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in the last week • Semanario Universidad

This increase occurs at a time when there is also a decrease in vaccination against this disease. According to data from the CCSS, in the last week, 21,429 doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 were applied, which represents a decrease of 13.46% compared to the previous period when 24,764 were administered.

The Ministry of Health reported an increase in cases and hospitalizations caused by COVID-19 in the last epidemiological week.

According to Health data, in the week of February 12 to 18, 5,109 new cases of COVID-19 were reported, which represents an increase of 624 compared to the previous period when 4,485 were recorded.

Growth was also seen in hospitalizations, which went from 184 to 194 in the last week: 181 in the ward and 13 in the Intensive Care Units (ICU).

In the last period there were 16 deaths, three less than the previous week when 19 were added.

Vaccination

The increase in cases and hospitalizations for COVID-19 occurs at a time when there is also a decrease in vaccination against this disease.

According to data from the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), in the last week, 21,429 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were applied, which represents a decrease of 13.46% compared to the previous period when 24,764 were administered.

At the country level, a total of 12,906,342 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine since December 2020.

Of the total doses applied, 4,618,564 correspond to first doses, 4,329,783 to second, 2,876,001 to third and 1,081,994 to fourth.

Currently, 224,617 minors between 6 months and less than 5 years of age, 104,286 children from 5 to 11 years of age and 180,395 people over 12 years of age are pending to start the vaccination scheme.
