Every year, from mid-November to the end of March, anyone with a garden, balcony or terrace can lend a hand to scientists.
The collaborative application, BirdLab, was launched in 2014 by the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris in partnership with the LPO and AgroParisTech in order to participate directly in scientific research on birds.
BirdLab allows you to count birds near you, but also to observe and recognize the different species present at the feeder.
A record number of participations during confinement
The data entered by users is recorded, shared with other users and analyzed by researchers.
An educational component allows birds to be identified. The photo, the Latin name, a small description and the song of each species are available in this section.
“A real success during the March containment, the application obtained a record number of participations with more than 1,500 games recorded, against 680 during the previous year”, welcomes the MNHN (the National Museum of Natural History) in a press release.
