Cortina wants to postpone the World Ski Championships by one year

The Alpine World Ski Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo are expected to take place a year later than planned. The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) wanted to ask the World Federation (FIS) not to be allowed to hold the title fights scheduled for 2021 until March 2022, said CONI boss Giovanni Malago in a TV interview.

The World Ski Championships are scheduled for February 7-21, 2021. However, the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the uncertain prospects of a resumption of sporting events would have prompted CONI to request that the Alpine World Ski Championships be postponed, Malago said. Due to the unpredictable development of the corona pandemic, the title fights should therefore only be held after the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022.

Cortina had already had to do without the World Cup final last March because of the coronavirus pandemic. The 2026 Winter Olympics will also take place in Cortina and Milan.
