Coronavirus worldwide: 99% of those who died in the United States in June were not vaccinated – World

The overall risk of children becoming seriously ill or dying from COVID-19 is extremely low, a new study confirms, quoted by the BBC.

In the first 12 months of the pandemic in England, 25 children died with COVID-19. Of the 12 million children in the United Kingdom, this shows a probability of 2 deaths per 1 million 251 children were admitted to intensive care, indicating a risk of intensive treatment at 1 in 50 thousand.

The study, conducted by researchers at University College London and the Universities of York, Bristol and is the most comprehensive, specializing in COVID-19 and children in the world, shows that the highest risk of severe course and death is in children with many chronic diseases, obesity and damage to the nervous system.

15 of the deceased children had serious illnesses, 13 of them had complex nerve injuries. Six had no other diagnosed conditions. Another 36 children who tested positive for COVID-19 died of other causes, the analysis showed.

About 5,800 children were admitted to hospital with the virus, compared to about 367,600 admitted to other emergencies (without injuries). 250 needed intensive treatment. 690 children were hospitalized with a rare inflammatory condition associated with COVID-19 called pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS-TS)

According to lead researcher Prof. Russell Wiener, he told the BBC that if there were adequate vaccines, certain groups of children could benefit from receiving them.

“My personal opinion is that it would be very prudent to vaccinate a number of groups we have studied that do not have a particularly high risk of death, but we know that their risk of severe course and admission to intensive care, although still low, is more higher than that for the general population, “says Prof. Wiener.

According to him, it is necessary to wait for research done in the United States and Israel on the effects of vaccines on children in real conditions before making a final decision on whether to vaccinate children in the UK.

Dr Elizabeth Whitaker of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health and Imperial College London said that although the study covered data until February 2021, the findings did not change for the Delta option.
