Dexamethasone can it be the remedy in the face of the Coronavirus ? The clinical trial conducted by british researchers seems to be promising, to the point that the World Health Organization has welcomed the results obtained by English scientists and called on them to increase their production.

The british researchers have made a clinical trial of particular importance, on 16 June 2020. This trial demonstrated the effectiveness of the dexamethasonea corticoïde used for its anti-inflammatory effect. This medicine is not a cure for the Covid-19 but it reduces the chances of mortality ofa third party in patients under assistance of oxygen or under a respirator. A significant advance, and even a” scientific breakthrough “for theWorld Health organization that has warmly congratulated the researchers for their work.

“The next challenge is to increase the production and to distribute quickly and fairly, and dexamethasone in the world, focusing on the places where it is needed the most” said the director-general of theWorld Health organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during a virtual press conference, this day. “Fortunately, it is an inexpensive medicine, and there are many manufacturers of dexamethasone in the world, which, we believe, can accelerate the production.”

In a press release, professor Peter Horby, co-lead of the clinical trial, explains that” Dexamethasone is the first drug to increase the chances of survival of the Covid-19. This is a result that is extremely welcome. The benefit for survival is clear and large for sick patients to the point of requiring medical oxygen, dexamethasone, therefore, should become now the standard treatment for these patients. The drug is bit expensiveavailable, and can be used immediately to save lives in the world.

In fact, the National Health Service (the british health system) has already authorized the broad use of the treatment for treating the patients most affected by the Coronavirus. According to the researchers, “ a death on eight could be avoided through this treatment in patients under artificial ventilation “.

By 16 June, theWHO was pleased with the results of this test, even as the China is undergoing a second wave of people affected by the Covid-19. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesusthe director-general of WHO, was thus expressed in a press release official : “This is good news and I congratulate the british government, Oxford university and the many hospitals and patients in the United Kingdom who have contributed to this scientific breakthrough that saves lives.”
