Coronavirus: the Ministry of Health suspends leave for medical staff

The Ministry of Health announced on Monday the suspension “until further notice” of leave for the kingdom’s medical staff, after an increase in contamination with the new coronavirus.

The ministry justified its decision in a circular by “the evolution of the health situation” of the country of 35 million inhabitants, and called on employees currently on leave to return to their posts within 48 hours.

The authorities had identified 25,537 cases Sunday evening – including 382 deaths – since the first recorded in March.

But the kingdom has known an increase in contamination for a few days, with records Thursday (1.046) then Friday (1.063). Local media have warned of a situation that has become “worrying”.

“We have identified in one week more cases than in four months”, already warned last week the Minister of Health, evoking a “worrying” epidemiological situation.

Authorities in the process decided to impose travel restrictions to and from eight cities to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

After strict confinement, Morocco accelerated its deconfinement in June with the reopening of cafes, restaurants, shops as well as the resumption of domestic tourism. However, the borders remain closed “until further notice”.
