Sweden extends coronary restrictions and postpones the reopening of society. This was confirmed by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven at a press conference on Thursday, reports Swedish daily newspaper.

Postpones to May 17

Löfven told the Swedes to persevere for the next few weeks to slow down what in some parts of the country is an explosive spread of infection.

– Now we are on the run-up side, and we must all help to hold on and persevere, said the Prime Minister, according to SvD.

It was expected that the Swedish government would extend the coronary restrictions following a recommendation from the Public Health Authority, which believes that the time is not ripe for relief.

The Public Health Authority proposes that the date for when restrictions can gradually begin to be eased be postponed to 17 May.

This week, there have been several reports about the serious situation in health care in Sweden, where more than 2,000 people have been admitted with covid-19, 400 of them in the intensive care unit.

13,882 corona deaths in total

At 2 pm, the Public Health Agency and department head Karin Tegmark Wisell opened a new press conference.

So far, the pandemic has cost 13,882 people their lives in Sweden (19 new last 24 hours). A total of 932,076 cases of infection have been registered in the country, 7736 in the last 24 hours, figures from The Swedish Public Health Agency.

– A very high level

On Thursday, the Public Health Agency says that Sweden has a high infection pressure in a European context. In terms of the number of deaths, Sweden is currently quite low in the European context if you look at the latest figures up to and including week 12.

– The increase seems to have stabilized at a very high level. We have a total of over 900,000 cases of infection. On average in the last 14 days, we have 794 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants at national level, Wisell said at the press conference on Thursday.

The Public Health Authority (FHM) first hoped that the restrictions on public events and gatherings could be relaxed as early as 11 April, but then the measures were postponed until 3 May.

Now there will be further postponements.

– The spread of infection is extensive, and it is a very serious situation in health care, Wisell further said about why Sweden can not open up society again now.

Thus, concert halls, cinemas and sports organizers have to wait before they are allowed to let in more than the current regulation allows for. When it comes to restaurants, shops and gyms, it is FHM itself that decides the rules, and they therefore do not have to go the way of the government to determine measures.
