Coronavirus: soaring prices for hydroalcoholic masks and gels, Bercy beats its fist on the table

“We will not accept any speculation about the coronavirus epidemic.” These words are those of Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, who received this Tuesday in Bercy the representatives of the companies after having noted doubling or tripling of prices on masks and hydroalcoholic gels.

The Directorate General for the Repression of Fraud (DGCCRF) will therefore investigate these sharp increases in sales prices observed since the appearance of the coronavirus epidemic in France.

A decree is ready

Since the development of cases of coronavirus on French territory, the French have rushed on protective masks and hydroalcoholic gels, and the prices of these products have soared in certain outlets, which are also out of stock by location.

At the end of this investigation, if irregularities are found, the government can decide to regulate the sale price of the masks, said the minister.

“I am ready with a draft decree” allowing this price framework, he said.
