RKI: Seven-day incidence drops to 83.1

8,500 new corona cases were reported to the Robert Koch Institute within 24 hours. The value for the seven-day incidence thus continues to decrease. According to information from the RKI from the early morning, it is now 83.1 nationwide. Yesterday the RKI had given it as 87.3.

In addition to Schleswig-Holstein (36.5), according to the RKI figures, a second federal state is now below the threshold of 50: the institute gives the value for Hamburg as 49.2. There are still three federal states above the threshold of 100: Baden-Württemberg (102.3), Saxony (111.5) and Thuringia (127.5).

Stiko: Vaccination refreshment needed in 2022

The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) expects that citizens will have to be vaccinated against the corona virus again in the coming year. “The virus will not leave us again. The current corona vaccinations will therefore not be the last,” said Stiko chairman Thomas Mertens to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

The Germans would have to be prepared for the fact that everyone might have to refresh their vaccination protection next year. The manufacturers say they are already working on modified vaccines that are supposed to be effective against currently known mutants.

Anne-Sophie Mutter: Politics has shown itself to be “culture-contemptuous”

Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter is disappointed and upset about dealing with artists during the Corona crisis. “The lives of artists have been so restricted this year that one can speak of a professional ban, a cultural ban,” she told the “Welt am Sonntag”.

The artist, who is now one of the best-known classical musicians in the world, said that she first tried to get in touch with politicians and, among other things, turned to Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters. “I was hoping that direct communication with politicians could get things moving. It wasn’t like that.”

In the course of time, politics has “shown itself to be more and more remote from culture, downright disregarding culture”. That was particularly painful in view of the many pilot studies, reports and concepts that would have allowed more openings in the cultural sector.
