But the new report suggested the virus could have come from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The virus was first detected in Wuhan, China’s Hubei province, at the end of 2019.
Chinese authorities have refused to cooperate fully with international efforts to investigate the origin of the pandemic.
The new study was written by British professor Angus Dalgleish and Norwegian academic Birger Sørensen.
Seen by the Daily Mail, it is expected to be published in the Quarterly Review of Biophysics Discovery, a scientific journal.
Professor Dalgleish and Dr Sørensen conducted a “forensic analysis” of research conducted at the Wuhan laboratory from 2002 to 2019.
They concluded that the coronavirus was created by ‘lab manipulation’ using ‘gain of function’ research.
Gain-of-function research is a controversial practice that allows scientists to modify natural viruses to make them more infectious.

The scientist added, “The laws of physics mean you can’t have four positively charged amino acids in a row.
“The only way to get this is to make it artificially.”
The study also claimed that Chinese authorities attempted to cover their tracks with “destruction, concealment or deliberate contamination of data.”
He added: “Scientists who wanted to share their findings either couldn’t do it or disappeared.”
Scientists have called for a wider international investigation into the origins of the coronavirus.
They wrote: “A natural viral pandemic is expected to gradually mutate and become more infectious but less pathogenic, which many expected with the COVID-19 pandemic, but which does not appear to have happened.
“The implication of our historical reconstruction, we now postulate beyond a reasonable doubt, of the purposefully engineered SARS-CoV-2 chimeric virus makes it imperative to reconsider what kinds of gain-of-function experiences it is morally acceptable to do. undertake.
“Because of their significant social impact, these decisions cannot be left to researchers alone. “
The coronavirus has killed at least 3.5 million people worldwide, although the actual figure is likely significantly higher.
Earlier this month, Dr.Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to the US president, called for more research into the formation of Covid-19.

Chinese authorities firmly deny that the coronavirus was created artificially.
