The number of proven corona infections after visiting a restaurant in East Frisia has risen to 18. Seven confirmed cases were added during the course of the Sunday, the Leer district announced in the evening. Among the infected were 14 people who attended the reopening of the restaurant on May 15 in closed company. Four other people would have become infected as a result. In total, domestic quarantine was ordered for 118 people.
A survey of the guests who were in the restaurant on May 15 also “provided evidence that the evening may have violated corona requirements”, it said from the district. This information will be followed up in an administrative offense procedure, including a hearing of the operator. The owner of the affected restaurant in Moormerland said on Saturday that he did not know whether the virus had spread on May 15 at the opening of his restaurant. It is also possible that people got infected before or after the evening.
