Coronavirus: New measures come into force – Switzerland

The new measures announced by the Federal Council to fight against the coronavirus came into effect Monday at midnight. From now on, all public or private events are prohibited and only essential shops are open.

All shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment and leisure facilities are closed until April 19. Only food stores and health establishments remain open. The supply of food and medicines is assured, said Monday the Minister of Health Alain Berset.

Company canteens, take-out and meal delivery services as well as pharmacies also remain open, as do petrol stations, stations, banks, post offices, hotels, administrations. services and social services.

Border controls

The Federal Council decreed an extraordinary state of affairs on Monday, taking sole control of the crisis. The rules are now identical in all cantons.

Controls are now re-established at the German, French and Austrian borders. Entry on Swiss soil is only authorized for Swiss nationals, people with a residence permit and those traveling for work.

As of midnight Monday, Ticino also closed five additional border crossings with Italy (Arogno, Brusino, Pizzamiglio, Camedo and Fornasette). These are minor crossings, in addition to the nine stations already closed since last week. (ats / nxp)
