Coronavirus-infected German was staying in Limburg last week Interior

In the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, bordering the Netherlands, an infection was first discovered on Tuesday. The man (47) was reported to have been admitted to a hospital in Erkelenz, about 20 kilometers from the border with the Netherlands, with a severe pneumonia on Monday afternoon.

The man is said to be in critical condition and is isolated. He is taken to the university hospital in Düsseldorf with a fire truck vehicle. That must happen during the night.

It is unclear who infected the man, but according to the Aachener Zeitung, the 47-year-old had contact with an acquaintance who was recently in China. It is not yet known whether that person will be treated.

Near Sittard

The husband’s wife also shows symptoms, but it is still unclear whether she is infected with the virus. We look at who the couple has been in contact with. According to sources from the Rheinische Post, the pair comes from Selfkant, near Sittard in the Netherlands. The authorities have not yet confirmed that.

The authorities in the Heinsberg region, across the border with the Dutch province of Limburg, have decided as a precaution that schools and daycare centers will remain closed on Wednesday. It is still being considered whether more measures are needed.

Earlier on Tuesday, the German authorities also reported a first infection in the southern state of Baden-Württemberg. It was about a 25-year-old man who fell ill after a visit to the Italian region of Lombardy.
