Coronavirus in the UK LIFE: deaths at 18,738 as vaccine trials begin and drive-through testing extends

SOCIAL-distancing measures could be in place for up to a year until a corona virus vaccine is found, Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty has warned.

In the Downing Street press briefing, Chris Whitty said: “Until we get a vaccine, and the likelihood of getting it anytime in the next calendar year is incredibly small and I think we should be realistic about that.

“We’re going to have to rely on other social measures, which of course is very socially disruptive as everyone can find at the moment.”

He went on to add Covid-19 to us for the “foreseeable future” and “we have to accept that”.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon also announced Scotland to provide a blueprint for easing the cordon.

However, she warned that she can go back to normal for more than a year.

Oxford University today will begin human trials on a vaccine with 510 people volunteered.

The death toll in the UK reached 18.738 – 616 more than yesterday.

It has now been shown that two out of three Britons go back, creating a new holiday to celebrate the NHS and the caregiver.
