Coronavirus in the Czech Republic: Most infections since pandemic started

The daily increase in coronavirus infections in the Czech Republic has exceeded 500 for the first time, the health ministry said on Saturday. 506 new cases were confirmed on Friday. The previous spike in infection occurred on March 27, when 377 infections were diagnosed.

In total, 21,551 infections have been confirmed in the Czech Republic since the start of the pandemic. The Ministry of Health reports that about three-quarters of infected people have recovered, 411 patients with Covid-19 have died, including three people the previous day.

According to the Ministry, the daily increase in excess of 300 new infections has occurred eight times since the start of the epidemic in March. Four such results took place in August.

Epidemiologists point out that, unlike the spring wave, fewer people are now hospitalized.

108 patients are currently hospitalized, including 22 in intensive care units – the number of people treated in hospitals has remained roughly at this level for four weeks. At the turn of March and April, four times as many COVID-19 patients were hospitalized.

Most infections are diagnosed in the area of ​​the town of Kolin in the Central Bohemia region. Per 100,000 In a week, 37 cases of the new coronavirus were found.

Czechs are preparing for the new school year. Despite earlier announcements, the authorities decided not to introduce the obligation to wear masks in schools and shops. From September 1, masks will have to be worn in means of transport, offices, health care and social care facilities.
